Volunteer Policy for Children and Youth Volunteers

St. Dunstan’s currently requires criminal background checks for all hired staff. To better safeguard our children, the Vestry has adopted a policy to broaden that policy and require criminal background checks on all volunteers working directly with children and youth. These volunteers include: Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, teen tutors, VBS leaders and helpers, etc., essentially any adult volunteer who consistently works with children under 18 years of age. St. Dunstan’s has hired a company to oversee the checks and all information will be kept in the strictest of confidence.

The safety and well-being of the children and youth entrusted to our care is ever in our mind. By employing criminal background checks, we are ensuring the welfare of our children, as well as giving parents peace of mind.
