Here's some more information about our service to help you get an idea of what it's like. When you come to the service, everything that we say, all the songs, and even when to sit and stand are projected up front, but this should give you an idea of what to expect.
Structure
We follow the basic outline of an Episcopalian Rite II Eucharist (the
kind of Communion service that most Episcopal churches use), but we've
changed the wording for some of the prayers and added a couple places
for individual prayer. Basically, the first part of the service is readings from the Bible and the Message, then there is some time of prayer, followed by Communion. Songs are sung at several different times throughout the service. To learn more, take a look at our Worship Guide. It has the text of our whole service as well as some interesting commentary and
explanations of what’s going on at each point in the service and why we do what we do.
Music
The music
at T.G.I.S includes a variety of worship songs: some
current hits, some older favorites, and pretty much everything in between. If you’d like to
know exactly what that means, you can check out the current songs we have in our music books. You can also look at some sample playlists of what we sang at past services, and even some future songs we're planning to add to our music books.
Readings
We are currently doing a preaching series in Exodus. This list shows what part of Exodus will be covered on each Sunday.
Message
At T.G.I.S, the priests aren’t the only ones who get to give the Message
(aka Sermon). We have a few other people who, with Fr. David and Fr. Tom our
church's priests, take turns giving the Message. Also, from time to time
we invite guest speakers, who might be priests from another church or
people involved in mission work. Click here for a list of upcoming speakers or you can read and listen to the past messages and sermons from T.G.I.S as well as St. Dunstan’s 2 morning services.
Food!
On the first Sunday of the month we gather in fellowship over dinner
after the service (there's a $3 suggested donation). The other weeks we
have light refreshments (free food!) available while we socialize after
the service. So, if you can, plan to stick around!
