Introduction to The Marks of Discipleship |
The Vision of St. Dunstan's is “To Be Disciples Building
Christ’s Kingdom.”
In order to change our Vision from a theoretical concept to a
practical, unifying, living reality, the Vestry is incorporating
the concept of the Marks of Discipleship into its planning and into the
management of all its wide-ranging functions and activities. Developed by
Michael Fos in his book Power Surge, the Marks of Discipleship provide six
measures of our life in Christ: daily prayer, weekly worship, Bible reading,
serving others, spiritual friendships and giving. Every ministry, committee, or
function within the church includes some or all of the ‘Marks’ as a means by
which to add substance, direction and spiritual life to its existence.
Up until now the success of our work has been measured in
the tangible outcome of our efforts: buildings built; programs started; children
taught; services provided; staff increased; and, of course, money raised.
Through the use of the Marks of Discipleship, St. Dunstan’s ministries and
committees corporately, and each of us individually, will be able to measure our
success in terms of the fulfillment of our Vision, and the progress of our
individual walk with Christ.
